DESIGNING AND BUILDING WITH “BIG BLOCK” SRW SYSTEMS
Thursday, December 8, 2022             1:45 PM – 3:15 PM              (424)

Big block retaining walls are becoming increasingly popular due to their outstanding aesthetics, structural durability, and speed of installation. They allow for gravity walls up to 20ft high without geogrid reinforcement, so they require less excavation and can be built closer to property lines and existing structures. Made from wet-cast concrete, they have the appearance of real stone and can hold up to any harsh environment.

This seminar will dive into the advantages and common applications of big block segmental retaining walls. Attendees will become familiar with the installation method and equipment required, as well as important design considerations such as soil type, modes of failure, and the effects of water. They will also understand when and how to integrate the blocks with geogrid reinforcement for even taller walls.

Many landscape companies do not use a cost-based estimating system. There are a number of different pricing systems that include a material multiplier, fair market price, unit pricing and the guesstimate. It is critical to understand your direct costs, how much overhead to recover and how much profit your company needs to succeed.

In this class we will cover:

  • The difference between an estimating and a pricing system.
  • How to set up your overhead recovery process.
  • How to determine your company’s breakeven and profit on each project.
  • Demonstration of how software can be utilized to improve your estimating process.

BECOME A FULL-SERVICE OUTDOOR LIVING CONTRACTOR
Friday, December 9, 2022
9:30 AM – 12:30 PM / 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
(502)

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn how to approach the design/sale of complete outdoor spaces
  • Understand the complexity of what offering a full suite of services means
  • Set yourself on the path toward becoming and Outdoor Living Expert

Session 1 – Everything begins with Design. Consumer demand for outdoor living spaces is at an all-time high and features more options than ever before. We will kick off this session with a current state of the industry view from Oldcastle APG’s perspective, discuss design trends, consumer insights, and the overall potential this industry offers. To tap into the potential, it’s critical to begin with high quality design. We will discuss consultation approaches, budgets, phasing, and how to impress your clients by presenting with tools such as augmented reality, photoreal renders, and fly through animations. For contractors looking to take their businesses to the next level, this is a can’t miss session to learn from two of the industry’s top experts!

Session 2 – Growing from a Hardscape Contractor to an Outdoor Living Contractor. Many of our contractors are focused mainly on hardscapes. That’s great, but as we’ve discussed, outdoor living spaces have evolved, and consumers are looking for full-service design build firms. If you’re ready to transform your business, attend this session! Learn how to set yourself apart from the competition, build a loyal client base, and set yourself up for long term success. This can be a daunting task; however, the presenters will discuss the steps necessary to partner with quality subcontractors, learn about these additional services, manage customer expectations, and work with local permitting and requirements.

Session 3 – Becoming an expert at all Outdoor Living Features. Now that you’ve decided to offer full service outdoor living spaces, it’s critical to add the full suite, a feature that consumers expect in an outdoor living space. Those features include outdoor kitchens, firepits, pools, pergolas, pavilions, pools, lighting, turf, fencing and much more. Joe and I will touch on each one of these subjects and discuss the options available to help you learn to become master craftsmen!
